ABOUT ME
I have enjoyed drawing, craft and design since childhood and studied art as part of a degree in Education, specialising in textile design and printing.
After many years as a primary school teacher I decided to take up drawing and painting
full time, and was soon involved in a successful joint exhibition with another local artist at
Gallery 3, Oadby. My work has since featured in galleries locally and in Norfolk and Wales.
It wasn't long before I found myself teaching again, this time for adults. I regularly tutor
painting and drawing courses at Leicestershire Craft Centre, Market Harborough. It is
great to share the joys of producing artwork and to watch the students' creativity flourish.
I have undertaken storyboard and design projects for individuals and local businesses and
completed a number of commissions, mainly 'house portraits'. My greetings cards are sold
in shops locally.
My work is largely inspired by the natural world, its patterns, colours and textures. Subjects
include flowers, natural forms, landscapes, seascapes and local scenes. The subject matter
often dictates my choice of media, be it watercolour, pen, acrylic, pastel or batik. Each
medium has its own unique characteristics and brings its own challenges!
I also enjoy using different media to explore and develop my designs, experimenting with
different styles and colour combinations or focusing on a pattern repeat. The latest of
these led to a wallpaper design, now in our hallway!
